Light catcher

2023

Re-purposed glass and timber

Light catcher was created during my 2023 residency at PADA, near Lisbon. Lisboa means “the good light” and during the residency I made several works using the changing light and shadows as materials, and experimented with creating “vessels” for light. The idea of catching, and somehow hoping to hold onto, light is both appealing and futile; the light cannot be held because it is always moving, always ephemeral, but the process of attempting to catch it for a fleeting moment offers a way to appreciate its shifting qualities and its transience. Light catcher is an ongoing experimental investigation and accumulating collection of performance photography. It is a work that will continue to evolve over time, particularly during residencies, as I encounter and attempt to capture the light in different places and situations.
